Is it normal to have really bad morning sickness into your second trimester?

I’m already into my second trimester, almost at five months now, and I have such bad morning sickness that I can’t keep anything down. I am also getting severe headaches with neck pain and bruising on my neck. I am currently taking diclectin, a pill for morning sickness specifically for pregnant women. My doctor on Monday recommended that I got off the pills, but I found I couldn’t without the sickness recurring. I can’t help but think that this isn’t normal. He said I should definitely be over the morning sickness by now.

It’s completely normal. I have morning sickness until I was 23 weeks. And now at 29 weeks it’s back. You stay on the pills if they help. Just stay hydrated and try to eat whatever you can/want. It can last the whole nine months.

Every woman and pregnancy is different. Some women don’t get morning sickness and some have it all through their pregnancy. You never know what to expect but I am sure that it should subside soon. Good luck!

I’m so sorry you are experiencing morning sickness so severely. Doctors try to put women in a box and make them fit into a stereotypical mold. Every woman is different and so is her experience with pregnancy related issues. Morning Sickness in one of those issues. Nausea can strike at any time, without any warning, at any stage of pregnancy. And it waxes and wanes unpredictably too. Your experience is definitely normal from women I have interacted with. Your “morning” sickness may go away soon, but it may stay. For help: There is a stronger prescription that doctors can recommend and there are also ways to manage it (see). Be reassured that you are experiencing something that many women do. I hope that it subsides soon for you though!
